Liverpool based Diamond Apple, UK based technology consultancy specialising in entertainment, business, App and Cloud connected software development; recruits University of Liverpool Masters Computer Science graduate Ian Brown.
Managing Director of Diamond Apple, Steve Mitchell, knew two things when he set up the business, that it would be ‘born global’ with a customer base that was wholly outside of the UK and that its success would be dependent on talented staff capable of adapting to, as well as pushing the boundaries of, technology and innovation.
The company’s ingenuity lies in developing bespoke technology for games consoles, console accessories, internet connected computer entertainment, and more recently Android based mobile telecoms. Not an area of technology that stays still for very long!
That’s why Steve knew he was unlikely to find a graduate from any university with the exact technical experience he needed. More important was finding a problem solver and independent learner – exactly the kind of skill set developed by the University of Liverpool’s Faculty of Computer Science. Yet where does a busy managing director start when faced with a potential mountain of applications?
Enter the Graduate to Merseyside team and through its unique talent matching service, Ian Brown, a first class Masters Computer Science graduate. Ian secured a position as a software engineer with Diamond Apple within weeks of completing his degree. Although Ian will be deploying some of the technical skills acquired on his degree, he’ll be developing new skills almost by the day. Writing the software and developing the technology within microchips that go into products like motion controllers in games consoles, will require Ian to learn new programming languages as the science develops.
He is delighted to be working on such an exciting project so soon after graduation, enthusing: ”Graduate to Merseyside is a really good job hunting tool. I registered, entered what kind of job I was looking for and every week I got an email showing up to date vacancies in my preferred field. I could get on with my studies while receiving a regularly updated list of companies that were looking for graduates with my skill set. Diamond Apple is a forward thinking organisation that engaged the help of Graduate to Merseyside in plenty of time to address their recruitment needs which means that when it came around to hiring me everything went smoothly and I knew exactly what the job entailed.”
Steve Mitchell added: “Graduate to Merseyside is a great service that looked after the whole process for us, from shortlisting right through to providing rooms for us to carry out interviews. We’re now using the service again to help us identify another software engineer – which is probably the best recommendation we can give!”
